Streets, Sidewalks and Storm Water

The City of Dexter is responsible for the maintenance of the following infrastructure within the City limits.

  • public roads
  • downtown street lights
  • traffic signals at Baker/Broad, Baker/Main, Dan Hoey/Baker and Meadowview/Dexter Ann Arbor
  • sidewalks
  • stormwater structures
  • road signs

Streets and Sidewalk Projects

Each year, the Planning Commission develops a Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). Council relies on the CIP to help choose what projects to include in the annual budget.

If you are completing a project that requires work to be done in the City right-of-way the following form is required:

To report a streetlight outage in a residential neighborhood, please contact DTE Energy.

To report a streetlight outage downtown, please contact the City Office at 734-426-8303.

Snow Removal

Residents need to clear sidewalks of snow and ice within 48 hours of snow cessation and business owners need to clear sidewalks within 4 hours of snow cessation or by the start of your business day.

Vehicles should be moved out of City parking lots and off the street as soon as possible during snow storms. The Snow Ordinance (Chapter 46) will be actively enforced by the City.

Dog Ordinance

Please help us protect the health of our City residents by making sure that you pick up after your dogs in our parks and on our sidewalks. The Dog Ordinance (Chapter 10) will be actively enforced by the City.
