October 2, 2013

The annual Homecoming Parade will be held Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm. The following road closures will be in effect:

Starting at 1:30 pm – Main Street between Dexter Chelsea and Baker

Starting at 1:45 pm – Baker Rd between Main Street and Dan Hoey

October 1, 2013

The railroad is working on improvements to the tracks through the Village. The work will require closures of the Broad and Central crossings. The crossing over Central Street is scheduled to be closed on Tuesday, October 1, 2013. The crossing over Broad Street is scheduled to be closed on Wednesday, October 2, 2013.

Crossings outside of the Village are also impacted. The Zeeb Road crossing (between Peters Road and Huron River Drive) will be closed on Monday, September 30, 2013. The Wylie Road crossing (between Dexter Chelsea and Island Lake) will be closed on Thursday, October 3, 2013.

September 24, 2013

Don't flush, toss, share, or save unused medications for later; safely dispose of them using the red barrel program. A drop off location is available at the Sheriff Substation (8140 Main) and is accessible 24 hours a day.

September 16, 2013

Village taxes are due on September 14, 2013, however due to the 14th falling on a Saturday, they will be accepted on Monday, September 16, 2013. After this date a 1% per month penalty will be applied to the balance due. Tax information for the Village and the Townships can be found year round at -

September 13, 2013

A hawker/peddler permit to go door-to-door in the Village between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. has been issued to Clean Water Action. The permit is good until October 31, 2013.

September 3, 2013

School starts September 3, 2013. Please be prepared for increased vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic in and around the Village. School hours are as follows:

Creekside/High School - 8:00 a.m. to 2:51 p.m. (11:25 a.m. on half days)

All other schools - 8:15 a.m. to 3:06 p.m. (11:40 a.m. on half days)

The Village Offices will be closed on September 2nd for Labor Day.  Trash pick-up that week will be delayed by one day.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 1st Annual Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival. We appreciate the community's efforts to make the 48 artists feel welcome as they painted around Dexter. The festival was a great success because of the talented artists and the support of the community. Washtenaw County Parks has submitted a project site plan for completion of the Border to Border River Terrace Trail (Dexter Huron Park to Central Street) to the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) for review.  Due to the proximity of the trail to the railroad and MDOT’s ownership of the railroad MDOT approval is required.  The trail alignment has been preliminary determined and Washtenaw County is waiting for MDOT approval prior to proceeding with construction.  It has been indicated by MDOT that their review will be completed within the next few weeks and additional information will be provided upon receipt of the required permit.

August 13th is the first day of registration for the Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival. Throughout the week artists will be painting on canvasses throughout the Dexter community. The Schedule of Events is provided below. The public is welcome to attend these free activities.

Thursday, August 15 at 4:00 p.m. - Painting Demonstration in Monument Park by Susan Amstutz
Thursday, August 15 at 7:00 p.m. - History of Plein Air Painting Presentation by Martha Girsch at the Dexter District Library
Friday, August 16 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Dexter Community School Student Light Pole Banner Contest Artwork will be on display in Monument Park. Students who submitted artwork can pick it up starting at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, August 17 - 2:45 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. - Artwork created during the week will be on display and available for sale in Monument Park. 30% of the proceeds from each painting goes back to the Arts, Culture & Heritage Committee to promote art in the community. The Dexter Community Orchestra will be performing in Monument Park from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
