Water Restrictions Return to Normal

May 22, 2019

As of today, Wednesday, May 22, 2019, the work on the water tower has been completed and it has been brought back into service. With this work finished, the complete outdoor watering ban that has been in effect since April 1st is now lifted and City residents and businesses will return to the normal watering restrictions. Outdoor watering continues to be prohibited every day between 6:00 am - 10:00 am. Outdoor water usage is also restricted to odd/even days. Residents and businesses with odd numbered addresses (ending in 1, 3, 5, 7, 9) may do outdoor watering only on odd number dates. Likewise, those with even numbered addresses (2, 4, 6, 8, 0) may do outdoor watering only on even numbered dates.

As water usage City-wide returns to normal, please ease into your outdoor water usage. The purpose of the complete ban and the continued watering restrictions is the protection of the City’s underground aquifers. We would like to continue our diligence and avoid taxing the aquifers despite the complete ban being lifted.

The City would like to thank everyone for their cooperation during this process. We have had to do very little enforcement of the ban and our water usage has stayed very consistent. We understand the inconvenience that the outdoor watering ban has been to our water users. It has also a significant and stressful challenge for City staff to keep the water system functioning properly without the availability of the tower. Fortunately, re-coating of the inside of the tower only needs to be done approximately once every 20 years.

Thank you again for your cooperation during this effort to maintain the quality of your water system. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Utility Department at 734-426-4572 during the hours of 7:00 am and 3:30 pm.
