Petition Forms for Village/City Offices are Available

The Governor has approved the proposed City of Dexter Charter, which will now be placed on the November 4, 2014 election ballot.

Petitions and affidavits of identity are now available for both Village and City Offices. If the proposed Charter passes, the City Officials will take office. If the proposed Charter does not pass, the Village Officials will remain in/take office.

The petitions and affidavits of identity can be picked up at the Village Office, Scio Township Clerk's Office and Webster Township Clerk's Office. Petitions and affidavits of identity for all offices must be turned in to the Scio Township Clerk by Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 4 pm.

The Village Officials that will be elected on the November 4, 2014 ballot will be three (3) Village Trustees for four (4) year terms.

The City Officials that will be elected  on the November 4, 2014 ballot will be one (1) City Mayor and six (6) City Council Members. All Council Member candidates will run for three (3) year terms; however the three (3) Council candidates that receive the most votes will receive three (3) year terms and the next three (3) elected Council candidates will receive one (1) year terms. The Mayor's term will be three (3) years.

The petition signature requirements are as follows:
- Village Offices require a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 20 signatures
- City Offices require a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 30 signatures

Candidates for City Office must be a resident of the proposed City for at least one year prior to the date of the election.
