City Transition

November 26, 2014

The Village of Dexter is now officially the City of Dexter!

On November 24, 2014 at the first official City of Dexter Council meeting, the newly elected Mayor and City Council Members were sworn in. A list of City Officials and their e-mail addresses can be accessed at - http://dextermi.gov/city-directory

Below is an update on the transition of assessing and tax collection services:

To conform with the Michigan Property Tax Act, Scio and Webster Townships will be collecting the Winter tax bill, which will include the final township tax levy. This bill will be mailed on or about December 1, 2014 and is payable to the Townships through March 2, 2015. In addition, the Townships will continue to perform all assessing duties through December 31, 2014 and will send out the 2015 Property Tax Assessment Notices in February, and hold the 2015 Boards of Review in March. The 2015 tax roll will be officially turned over to the City of Dexter April 1, 2015.

Changes to assessing records (with the exception of the March Board of Review) that occur starting January 1, 2015 will be the responsibility of the City of Dexter Assessor.  2015 taxes, which include all city, school, county, library, community college and intermediate school district taxes, will be collected by the City starting with the Summer tax bill in July 2015.
