Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this latest snow storm. Within the next hour the Village's Department of Public Works crew will have completed a majority of plowing activities in the Village. Overnight tonight crews will be working on clearing the snow from downtown parking lots, cleaning out intersections and relocating snow piles where necessary. We do not anticipate that this work will push any additional snow back into driveways.

Please be reminded that although the Village is committed to keeping downtown sidewalks, stairs and boardwalks cleared of ice and snow in a timely manner, they can still be slippery. Please use caution when using these amenities in the winter months.

Snow Removal
Please help us keep the Village walkable all year round. As a reminder, Village Ordinance requires the following:

Residents: Please clear your sidewalk of snow and ice within 48 hours of snow cessation.
Business owners: Please clear your sidewalks within 4 hours of snow cessation or by the start of your business day.

Please shovel the snow onto your property. It is against Village Ordinance to shovel the snow into the street or onto a neighbor's property.

We also request that you please help the fire department by making sure that fire hydrants around your home or business are cleared of snow, accessible and visible from the street as soon as possible after a snow storm. Every second counts in an emergency situation.

These reminders should be shared with contractors who are working to remove the snow from private property.

The Village has received reports of children playing in and around the large snow piles that have accumulated in the neighborhood cul-de-sacs. We would like to caution against this because of the possibility of the children being injured or trapped if the pile collapses or shifts. Thank you for your cooperation.

The Village's Department of Public Works crew is working on salting and plowing Village streets and downtown sidewalks. A summary of their activities is as follows:

Major streets have been plowed; crews are working on local streets. Downtown sidewalks have been plowed. Parking places will be cleared as they are accessible.

Over the next several hours crews will be working on pushing the snow back (where necessary) so that the entire roadway is cleared. This may result in snow being pushed into resident and business driveways. To minimize the inconvenience the crews are doing this today so that hopefully residents/businesses will only have to shovel once.

Residents can assist the crews in completing their work by moving vehicles off the streets and out of public parking areas, when possible.

Please be reminded that although the Village is committed to keeping downtown sidewalks, stairs and boardwalks cleared of ice and snow in a timely manner, they can still be slippery. Please use caution when using these amenities in the winter months.

In preparation for the warmer temperatures and chance of rain this week, Village Staff will be working on digging out catch basins so that the water can reach the storm water system.

We would also like to recommend that residents with sump pumps check them to make sure they are working. Many residents have drain tile around their basements, so the melting snow or rain will drain down to drain tile and enter the sump pump.  It is also important to make sure that the discharge line from the sump pump is not frozen.
