Public Hearing - City Council

Notice is hereby given that the Dexter City Council will hold a public hearing on June 10, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at the Dexter Senior Center, 7720 Dexter-Ann Arbor Road, Dexter, Michigan, for the purpose of hearing public comment regarding proposed changes to the Fireworks Ordinance.

The changes to the Fireworks Ordinance include revising the permissible dates and times for the ignition and discharge of consumer fireworks to be consistent with recent State of Michigan legislation, and increasing the maximum fine for violating the ordinance from $500 to $1,000. Under the proposed changes the discharge of fireworks would be permissible only on the following days between the following hours:

1)      Between 11 am on December 31 and 1 am on January 1.

2)      Between 11 am and 11:45 pm on the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Memorial Day.

3)      Between 11 am and 11:45 pm on June 29, June 30, July 1, July 2, July 3 and July 4.

4)      Between 11 am and 11:45 pm on July 5, if that date is a Friday or a Saturday.

5)      Between 11 am and 11:45 pm on the Saturday and Sunday immediately preceding Labor Day.

The draft changes are available for public inspection at the City Offices, 8123 Main Street, 2nd Floor, Dexter, MI 48130; weekdays between 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  They are also available online by clicking here. Interested parties are welcome to attend the public hearing and present their comments. Written comments regarding the proposal should be submitted to the City Manager’s Office at the address listed above or via email to, and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 4, 2019.
