On November 20, 2014 the Village of Dexter officially became the City of Dexter after the voter-approved charter was filed with the State of Michigan's Office of the Great Seal. This page and all the pages under this category contain information and links posted prior to the incorporation being completed, as they were presented at that time, for historical reference.
Cityhood Next Steps
The City Charter Commission completed the draft Charter and voted to place it on the ballot for consideration on November 4, 2014. This election also included races for the positions created by the Charter - Mayor (1) and City Council Member (6). Those that were elected took office when the Charter was adopted. When the Charter passed, the Village officially became a City.
If the Charter had not passed within three years of the date that the Director’s Final Order approving the incorporation became final, then the process would have ended.
