In honor of the resilience of the Dexter community following the tornado of last March, the Dexter Relief Fund committee, with the help of many organizations across the community, is hosting an Open House on Friday, March 15, from 3pm to 7pm at LaFontaine Automotive. At this event:
- Applications are being accepted for the tree replanting effort in late April. Tree samples and site evaluation consultation will be available.
- Applications are being accepted for lawn/glass remediation problems.
- Volunteers are invited to sign up for the replanting. Help is needed and teams are being sought.
- Food will be provided by LaFontaine Automotive and Busch's.
- Games will be led by Dexter High School students.
- Video booth will be available for storytelling.
So many people were affected, both directly and indirectly, by the storm, that we know it will go down in the collective memory of Dexter. In spite of the hardship of the people whose homes and lives were so impacted, the lesson so many have learned is that we benefit from and survive because of the support of our friends, family and neighbors, and so it is in this spirit of celebration that everyone is invited to stop by LaFontaine on Friday, March 15, between 3pm and 7pm.
The Monument Park Ice Rink is closed for the season.
The Village has unveiled a new website!
Village Council has changed the Village's "newspaper of record" from the Dexter Leader to the Sun Times. The Village is required to publish certain notices, such as those for public hearings, in a paper in general circulation in the Village. A synopsis of the minutes of the Council meetings is also published once the minutes are approved. The Sun Times is delivered free to all homes in the Village, which we hope will increase the amount of people that see the notices that are published. Public hearing notices and Village Council meeting minutes are also available on this website and will be distributed through the e-mail update and Facebook.
The Washtenaw County Emergency Operations Center will be conducting a test of 55 outdoor warning sirens on Saturday March 2, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. Except for scheduled testing, the sirens will be activated for the following emergencies: 1.) The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning. 2.) A severe thunderstorm has been detected with damaging winds in excess of 70 MPH. 3.) A hazardous materials accident requires immediate protective action by the public. 4.)
