At the November 12, 2018 City Council meeting, Scott Bell was appointed by Council to fill the term that was vacated by Ray Tell. Council Member Bell's term expires in November 2020. The City would like to thank all 13 candidates who applied to fill the vacancy.
The City of Dexter is seeking four (4) candidates interested in serving as members of the City’s Housing Task Force - a new committee created by the City Council on November 12, 2018. Task Force objectives will include: inventorying existing housing stock; identifying housing needs; identifying and researching housing case studies from other communities; researching strategies to address missing housing needs and affordable housing; and present findings to City Council for additional study or action.

The Planning Commission is seeking one new member. The Planning Commission is a 9 member board of City residents that is responsible for the creation and adoption of a master plan, which is a long range plan for the physical development of the City of Dexter. The plan is currently undergoing a revision. The Commission is also responsible for holding required public hearings on changes to the zoning ordinance and recommending the boundaries of zoning districts. The Commission also reviews site plans and annually reviews the Capital Improvements Plan which is a program to evaluate, prioritize and structure the financing of public improvement projects.
The Planning Commission meets the first Monday of each month at 7:00 pm.

Leaf pick-up by the Department of Public Works (DPW) started the week of October 8, 2018. Please park cars as far away from leaf piles as possible. It is also very important to make sure that there is no debris in the leaf piles (garbage, sticks, etc). The leaves should be piled as close to the curb as possible and not placed into the road, ditches, storm drains or parking places. The closer the piles are to the curb, the quicker they are able to be collected by the equipment.
Waste Management will continue to pick up compost bags through Monday, November 26, 2018.
Monday, November 5, 2018 until 4 pm is the final opportunity to receive an absentee ballot. The ballot must be requested in-person and voted at the City Office. It is against State of Michigan election law for the Clerk to give an absentee ballot over the counter to someone other than the person whose name is on the ballot.

Polls will be open on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 from 7 am to 8 pm. Precincts 1 & 3 are located at Dexter Senior Center (7720 Ann Arbor St); Precinct 2 is located at St. Andrew's Church (7610 Ann Arbor St). Due to the length of the ballot, we suggest that voters review the sample ballot prior to visiting the polls. Voters can also bring a marked up copy of the sample ballot to use when filling out the official ballot in the voting booth.
Crack seal work in Huron Farms/Orchard River Hills will continue on Saturday, November 3, 2018. The contractor has approximately one half day left of work to finish in this area. This work is not expected to have a significant impact on residents or commuting traffic. Please proceed carefully through work zones.
In preparation for the 2019 Central Street road reconstruction project, DTE will be locating their gas mains in the following areas: Central between Monument Park and Third Street, Fifth between Broad and Central and Fourth between Central and Dover. Work is expected to start October 29, 2018 and will require DTE to dig small holes in certain areas to determine the exact location and depth of their gas mains. This work will occur in the road right of way. In some cases, this may require temporarily closures of lanes with flag control. Please proceed with caution through construction zones.
The final paving of the parking lane on Grand Street between Baker and Broad is scheduled to be completed on October 23, 2018.
Dexter Community Schools is conducting traffic and pedestrian counts on Dan Hoey between Baker and Ann Arbor Street and on Baker between Dan Hoey and Hudson. The counts are done with cameras that are mounted to sign posts. The data collection is expected to be completed by October 15, 2018.
The contractor for the 2018 sidewalk project will be back in the community tomorrow (Thursday, October 11, 2018) to make some necessary repairs to the intersection ramps listed below. Please proceed with caution through project areas.
