Dexter is one of the five largest communities along the Huron River working with the Huron River Watershed Council (HRWC) as part of the Trail Town project. The City of Dexter is working with the HRWC on a Strategic Trail Town Plan to plan for the development of amenities that support trail users such as parks, places for putting in watercraft, and riverside boat storage.

The City of Dexter is seeking a full-time Utility Operator for the Water/Wastewater Department. The position works day shift hourly and will be included in a rotation schedule with other operators to cover weekends/on-call shifts. This position will include duties of a technical, semi-skilled nature as well as labor work in the operation, maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery in water and wastewater operations. In preparation for implementation of their bond projects, Dexter Community Schools will be conducting traffic counts at various intersections in the City. These counts will be done over the next two weeks using cameras which are placed on existing poles at the intersections.
City contractor A1 Concrete Leveling will be working throughout the City on September 8, 2017 and September 9, 2017 (weather permitting). Concrete leveling involves injecting concrete underneath the sidewalk slabs to level them. Residents who will have work done in front of their homes have been notified with a letter.
Residents also received a letter if they have sidewalk slabs scheduled to be removed and replaced. We expect this work to begin within the next two weeks.
Property taxes are due on Friday, September 15, 2017. Payments must be received at the City Office by 5 pm, postmarks are not accepted.
The City will be performing preventative maintenance on several areas of the sewer system the week of September 11, 2017. The sewer mains will be cleaned with a vactor truck, which puts high pressure water through the main. The schedule for the work is as follows:
September 11-13: Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Cottonwood, Inverness, Kensington, Wall Ct., Dover, Edison, Hudson, Cushing Ct
September 13-15: Lexington, Carrington, Wellington, Bristol, Kingsley (if time permits additional Dexter Crossing streets will be completed)
School starts Tuesday, September 5, 2017. Please be prepared for increased vehicle, bus and pedestrian traffic in and around the City. School hours are as follows:
Creekside/High School - 8:00 a.m. to 2:51 p.m. (11:25 a.m. on half days)
All other schools - 8:15 a.m. to 3:06 p.m. (11:40 a.m. on half days)
